Document Archive..

After spending a day in an isolated, impoverished community in the Dominican Republic, I realized that the children surrounding me were being deprived of an education and a future. These innocent youth lacked what basic necessities we take for granted on a daily basis in Canada. I immediately knew I must do something to help when I returned home.

It is too easy for us to ignore those in need, focusing only on our own desires – yet it is so simple to do something to help the our fellow human beings. I realized this when I returned from a third-world exposure trip while in high school.

Many of us take education for granted. A clean and safe classroom, large quantities of paper and pens, ample teaching staff, even transportation to and from school. Meanwhile, many children in developing countries around the world struggle to overcome daily challenges and long for the opportunity to attend school.

My wish is that those who have been blessed to live in a striving, developed part of the world will realize the injustices that exist in the world today, and be a part of positive change.

The children in developing nations deserve every opportunity in life equally as much as the children in thriving nations do.

By raising awareness and contributing money for school supplies and projects to make education more accessible, we can help to make the hopes and dreams of children in the Dominican Republic, Columbia, Honduras and more a reality; improving the conditions of living for their families and entire communities.

It is my hope that you will be made aware of this unjust situation and become inspired as I have, to help make a difference in the world.

Respectfully,
