Most of us use popular social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter for staying in touch with friends and meeting new people. But the rapidly growing Web 2.0, including blogs and video sharing sites, also provides an incredible venue for non-profits and youth to promote important causes. Don’t think this is the case? If you’ve ever seen a message like “Click Here to Save Darfur” on your screen, you’re a part of it! Today, organizations both large and small, corporate and youth run, are using the web and social networks to rally protesters, using media sharing sites to promote articles, images, and ideas related to their cause, starting small donor funds through widgets and more. Through this workshop you’ll learn how to effectively use online tools as a youth activist! Exploring the Various Ways Youth Can Begin to Take Action in Supporting Social Causes

You know you want to make a positive difference in the world – but have you ever thought about starting your own project? Whatever your cause – be it anything from the environment to homelessness, overseas education or anything else – through this seminar you will be able to share your ideas on taking social action while hearing the great ideas of others like you. In this interactive session, we’ll start with inspiring stories of youth who have already moved into action, and provide concrete examples of what other youth have been doing to make a positive difference. Discuss, connect, learn, and become inspired to take social action!
